Thank you This video was taken during one of our visits to a breeding facility in Indonesia. In Asian countries Arowana are popular fishes thought to bring good fortune to their owner. In the right environment, they breed readily and this helps protect wild populations from over-exploitation. In arowanas, males brood the eggs in their mouths and release the young once they're capable of feeding themselves but males get a little hungry during incubation and consume a few eggs to keep their strength up. In order to save as many young as possible and keep the males in top condition, skilled fish farmers gently relieve males of their brood early and transfer them to aquaria in controlled conditions for growing on.
